Library account

Log on | Password | Change of address | Library account disabled

Your library account lets you

  • get information on the media you currently have on loan, or have ordered or reserved
  • renew your media
  • cancel reservations
  • display outstanding charges
  • customize your search preferences in the online catalogue
  • save your search results

Log in

You will find the link to your library account next to the search box at the top left of the University Library's web page.

You will need your library card number and password to log in. Your card number is the twelve-digit number beneath the bar code on your library card. top

Password

The default password is your date of birth as a six-digit number in the form ddmmyy. For example, if your birthday is June 9 1991 then your password will be 090691.

You will need to change the password at your first login.

When choosing your new password, please make sure you will not use more than 12 characters and you do not include the special character €, as this is not recognised by the self-check machines. We recommend that you use a German keyboard when setting your password. For upper and lower-case letters please press the shift key on the self-check machine's keyboard. Afterwards, make sure you press this key again to deactivate it, as it remains active once it has been pressed.

Your password is required for the following services of the University Library:

  • Logging in to the online catalogue
  • Accessing your online account
  • Borrowing media via our self-service checkout kiosks

Please note that your password from the university library is not valid at the services of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek! 

  • If you have a white library card, you have to enter a new password in the search portal of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek („BSB Discover”).
  • If you have an LMUcard, you no longer register at the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek with your library card number, but with your LMU user ID.

Change password

Go to "My details" and select "User Details" from the menu, then click on the tab "Change Password". Enter your new password and confirm.

Important information for LMUcard holders:
If you have not already changed the default password for the online catalogue, please do so immediately. As your date of birth is printed on your LMUcard the default password is no longer secure.

Forgotten your password?

Choose "Log in" and enter your library card number, then click on the button "Forgot your password?". A new password will be sent to you automatically by e-mail.

Alternatively, you can go to the Information Desk in the Zentralbibliothek (Main Library), where the library staff will re-set your password. Please bring your identity card or passport.top

Change your street and e-mail address

Students and employees of the LMU

Your contact details will be stored centrally by the University administration and transferred to the University Library. We therefore ask you to contact the Student Admissions Office or University administration if you need to update your details.

All other users

Please see the menu item "User details" under the tab "My details" in the online catalogue. Your personal details as stored in the University Library's database will be displayed. You can easily change these details by simply typing over them.

Library account disabled

Reasons why your account may have been disabled:

  • Outstanding charges
    Your library account will be disabled if you have outstanding charges of more than 5 Euro.
    You can settle outstanding charges at the pay station.
  • Message undeliverable
    Your address has changed and you have not yet informed us of your new address.
    Please contact UB.info in the Zentralbibliothek (Main Library).
  • De-registration
    As a student, your library card will expire automatically if you are de-registered from the University. If you join the staff of the LMU or transfer to the TU following de-registration you can obtain a new library card at the UB.info desk in the Zentralbibliothek (Main Library) or at the Subject Library appropriate to your academic discipline. All other individuals should apply to the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek (BSB) for their library card.
  • Students of the TU and the HfP
    Your library card is valid until the end of the current term. Please renew your card for the next term.
  • Inactivity
    If you have not borrowed anything for a long time your account will be disabled as inactive. Please contact UB.info in the Zentralbibliothek (Main Library).
