Mensa card

Payment for copies and printouts at the photocopiers is processed through the Mensa card ("Legic-Karte") issued by the Studentenwerk (Student Services Office).

Issue and cost of the Mensa card

You can obtain your Mensa card at the service offices/infopoints in the Mensen (refectories) and StuCafés run by the Studentenwerk. It costs 12 Euro (7 Euros deposit and 5 Euros credit).

In the computer pool CIP-Pool 1 in the Main Library you will find a vending machine at which you can buy Mensa cards (visitor's cards only). The machine takes coins and notes but not bank cards.

LMU students

Students of the LMU can obtain a Mensa card at a discount in the Mensen (refectories) and cafeterias. To obtain this so-called "Studentenkarte" (student card) you will need to produce your enrolment certificate and official personal ID.

LMU staff

Staff of the LMU can obtain a Mensa card at a discount in the Mensen (refectories) and cafeterias. To obtain this so-called "Bedienstetenkarte" (staff card) you will need to produce your employment contract or employee service card together with official personal ID.

Students of the TU Munich and the University of Applied Sciences Munich

Students of the TU Munich and the University of Applied Sciences Munich can use their "Student Card" at the LMU photocopying machines.

Other users (non-members of the LMU)

Non-members of the LMU can also obtain a Mensa card (a so-called "Gästekarte" or visitor's card) which they can use to make copies. In addition the University Library's book scanners are available to all users free of charge.

Topping up the Mensa card

Charging stations are located in all the Mensen (refectories) and StuCafés run by the Studentenwerk München (Munich Student Services Office) at the LMU and TU in Munich. You can find your nearest charging point by checking the list of charging stations for the Mensa card.

You can top up your credit using cash or your bank card. The cash pay-stations accept 5, 10, 20 and 50 Euro notes but no coins. Only the vending machine in the computer pool CIP-Pool 1, at which you can also purchase Mensa cards, takes coins, but it does not accept bank cards.

The University Library is currently endeavouring to obtain more charging stations for individual library locations.
