Supervising academic papers in the age of AI
Course language: German
Supervising academic work in the age of AI brings with it many new challenges. In this workshop, we will look at various building blocks for sensibly regulating the use of AI in coursework and providing our students with adequate support in their work. We will discuss ways in which its use can be documented, which rules of use are appropriate, and how these rules can be communicated and enforced. We will also look at ways in which we can support students in their use of AI so that they learn how to use the tools in a scientifically meaningful and correct manner.

Recognising and evaluating AI in homework – is it possible, and if so, how?
Course language: German
AI detectors are generally not considered a useful tool for detecting whether AI has been used in coursework. Nevertheless, it is useful to know what ‘markers’ AI texts may exhibit in order to be able to alert students at an early stage in the supervision process to potentially non-transparent or inappropriate use. In this workshop, we will work together to develop a set of these markers. We will then discuss ways in which we can deal with suspected AI use in a didactically meaningful way.

Guide to Using AI Language Modelling in Higher Education
In a collaborative project the Schreibzentrum und PROFiL have developed a Guide to Using AI Language Modelling in Higher Education. This comprises, amongst others, a general introduction to Large Language Models (LLM) and/or Chat GPT and their future development, as well as praxis-oriented articles for the scientifically correct and target-oriented use in teaching, academic writing practice, support of students in the writing process and in tests.
