Workshops for teaching staff
Academic writing with AI: Defining, communicating, and enforcing the rules
This workshop focuses on defining clear rules for the responsible and meaningful integration of AI into the academic writing process. We go beyond the general legal framework cited by current expert opinion or definitions of plagiarism.
We define and discuss practical rules and how these may vary according to discipline and personal preference, going on to consider which questions are relevant to the creation of a clear set of rules and how these rules can best be communicated and implemented during the writing process. Our aim is to enable the formation of a positive writing culture in which no-one must fear committing unintentional errors.
The course will be held in German.

Implementing writing didactics into seminars in times of AI (in English)
During this two-part workshop, participants will learn about a range of perspectives and resources for teaching in the AI era. They will also have the opportunity to develop at least one deliverable: a new or revised assignment that is informed by this new AI era (this could be either an assignment that integrates AI or one that is intentionally created to prevent or discourage the use of AI).
First, Dr Hallman Martini will share a range of views currently represented in the debate about whether (and how) to integrate AI into the teaching of writing at universities and in open access resources. Second, participants will work in small groups, pairs, or individually to develop at least one piece of curricular work that they can use in their classroom or programme.
Rebecca Hallman-Martini is offering this workshop as a guest instructor during her visit to the Writing Center of the University Library. Dr Hallman Martini is Head of the Writing Center and Associate Professor in the English Department at the University of Georgia. She specializes in writing center studies, writing across the disciplines, ethnographic research methods, and composition pedagogy.
