Reference management for beginners: Citavi

When writing academic papers, you can easily lose track of the sources you have used unless you organise them properly. Reference management software such as Citavi can make academic writing easier by helping you to collect the results of your literature searches and keep track of your reading. You can insert citations into your work in a few easy steps and automatically create a list of references formatted in your chosen citation style.
In this workshop we will introduce you to the basic functions of reference management programs and the ways in which you can use Citavi to manage and organise sources effectively in your academic work.

You will learn how to enter bibliographic data manually, how to import it automatically, and how to use the other management functions provided by the programs. In addition, you will learn how to insert citations and bibliographies into Word automatically, and how to switch between different citation styles.

Please make sure you have installed the program before the start of the course. Technical notes: Citavi is only available for Windows, not for MacOS.

  • Introduction to reference management
  • Importing bibliographical data
  • Managing and organising your references
  • Citations and importing bibliographies within Word

The course will be held in German.

Target group

Students with little or no experience of using reference management programs and who wish to learn the basic functions of the software.
