About the LMUcard

Payment with the Legic card ("Mensa card")

Members of the LMU who have not yet received an LMUcard can use the Legic card issued by the Studentenwerk (Student Services Office) to pay.

As soon as you receive your LMUcard you can return your Legic card at one of the Studentenwerk Infopoints, where any stored credit will be transferred to your new LMUcard.

About the Legic card of the Studentenwerk (Student Services Office)

Students of the TU Munich and the University of Applied Sciences Munich

Students of the TU Munich and the University of Applied Sciences Munich can use their "Student Card" at the LMU photocopying machines.

Other users (non-members of the LMU)

Non-members of the LMU can also obtain a Mensa card (a so-called "Gästekarte" or visitor's card) which they can use to make copies. In addition the University Library's book scanners are available to all users free of charge.

Topping up the LMUcard and the Legic-Karte

At the charging stations

Charging stations are located in all the Mensen (refectories) and StuCafés run by the Studentenwerk München (Munich Student Services Office) at the LMU and TU in Munich, and in the PC room 1 (computer pool) in the Zentralbibliothek (Main library). You can find your nearest charging point by checking the list of charging stations for the Legic-Karte.

As a rule, you can top up your credit using cash. The cash pay-stations accept 5, 10, 20 and 50 Euro notes but no coins. Only the vending machine in the PC room 1 takes coins. In the Mensen (refectories), you can top up your credit using a debit card.

The University Library is currently endeavouring to obtain more charging stations for individual library locations.

Automatic charging using direct debit ("Autoload")

The Autoload system ensures that you always have sufficient credit on your Legic-Karte. As soon as your credit falls below a certain level it is automatically topped up again.

Please note: Topping up your Legic-Karte using Autoload is only possible at the cash desk in a Mensa or a StuCafé. Automatic top-up is not available at the copy machines.

If you wish to use Autoload please register at one of the Infopoints in the Studentenwerk (Student Services Office). When you register you will have to grant the Student Services Office a direct debit mandate.

Who to contact if you have problems with your Legic-Karte

If you are having problems with your Legic-Karte or need to exchange a faulty card, please contact one of the service offices/infopoints, StuCafés, Espresso-Bars or StuBistros run by the Studentenwerk (Student Services Office).
