Donations to the University Library
The University Library of the LMU Munich frequently receives offers of donations of books and journals from individuals or institutions. We welcome support from outside the University.

We are pleased to accept donations to the University Library of the LMU provided that they contribute to the current teaching and research of the University, or match the profile of our traditional subject collections.
However, limited storage capacity compels us to apply strict criteria when considering whether to accept donations to our collections, including
- date of publication (varies according to the discipline)
- general condition
- existing copies held by the LMU (in order to avoid multiple copies, for example)
The final decision on the acceptance of a donation rests with the appropriate subject specialist at the University Library.
You can help to accelerate the processing of your donation offer by providing us with a list of the books or journals you wish to donate (including author, title, date of publication and, if possible, ISBNs).
Please also note:
- Donations can only be accepted if they are both free of restrictive conditions and are placed at the full disposal of University Library of the LMU.
- Regretfully, we cannot undertake to return any unsolicited donations we have been unable to accept.
- The Library regrets that neither staff nor financial resources are available to assist with the transport of donations. We must therefore ask the donor to provide the requisite transport.
