Workspace reservation

Members of the LMU will be able to use the reading and study workspaces at all of the University's locations.

In the Allgemeine Lesesaal (General reading room) and the subject libraries, a quota of reading and working spaces is available to subject-specific students respectively members of the LMU for a reservation via the reservations system. All other working spaces can be used without prior reservation.

  • CIP-Pool 1 (Computer Pool 1) and Zentrale Lehrbuchsammlung (Central Textbook Collection): No reservation of reading and study workspaces possible, the places are freely accessible for participation in online courses (requirement: wearing a headset during the course).
  • You can enter the library, loan books, scan and copy without registering or making a reservation at all open locations of the University Library. 

Online Reservation

  1. Click on the link below to access the reservation system.
  2. Log in using your LMU account at the top right of the website.
  3. Select the library in which you wish to reserve a reading/study workspace and, if necessary, a reading/work place directly. For some Subject Libraries there are two different quotas applicable to the reservation of reading/study workspaces: One for the students and staff of the library's own subject area („nur Fachangehörige” - subject affiliates only) and one for non-affiliates („Allgemeiner Bereich” - general area).
  4. Please select a day and time-slot for your reservation (you may need to scroll down or right to see the date or reading/working workspace you want).
  5. Check the information provided and save the entry.
  6. To claim your reserved place. please check in at the desk with your LMUcard when you enter the library.
  7. If you have reserved two or more consecutive slots, you must check in again at the desk at the start of each new slot.
  8. There is no need to check out when you leave the library.

  • The reservation of workspaces via the reservation system of the UB is only possible with an LMU user ID. Reservations for third parties and/or the transfer of the LMUcard are excluded.
  • When you make a reservation you are assigned a designated workspace. You can select the duration of each individual reservation. Time-slots are available from 30 minutes to 4 hours.
  • You may reserve up to 3 time-slots per day at a maximum of 4 hours each.
    An exception is made for the Fachbibliothek Rechtswissenschaft, where you can reserve up to 4 slots of up to 4 hours each, as this library has longer opening hours.
  • In the computer pool CIP-Pool 2 at the Zentralbibliothek you can make up to 15 reservations per week.
    For the two scan PCs in the computer pool CIP-Pool 1 you can make up to 18 reservations per week.
  • In the case of a no-show the workspace reservation will be cancelled automatically 30 minutes after the start of the time-slot. This means that you must claim your reserved time-slot within 30 minutes, otherwise you will not be able to check in.
  • Please also note: Even if you have reserved back-to-back consecutive time-slots you must check in again at the desk at the start of each further time-slot. These further time-slots will otherwise be considered unclaimed and the reservation will be automatically cancelled.
  • Reservations can be made up to three days in advance. For example, if you want to book a time-slot for 10 March, you can place your reservation at any time from midnight on 8 March onwards.


If you can't make use of a reserved reading/study workspace, please cancel the reservation and thereby release the reading/study workspace to other users.

  1. To cancel or change a reservation, click the link in the confirmation email of your reservation (if necessary, you may need to log in the reservation system in advance).
  2. By clicking „Eintrag löschen” you cancel the reserved reading/study workspace. Change your reservation, such as a different seat or area, by clicking „Eintrag ändern”. In both cases, you will receive a confirmation email again.

Please note that cancellations and changes are possible until 30 minutes before the reservation.

In the case of a no-show the workspace reservation will be cancelled automatically 30 minutes after the start of the time-slot.
