Reading areas & carrels
Reading rooms
The reading rooms of all 15 locations of the University Library are equipped with classic library desks. Here you can learn in a quiet and concentrated learning environment especially suitable for literature research work.
You can bring water in re-closable, transparent bottles. Other drinks or any kind of food are not allowed.
Learning centers
You can choose between different workstations in the University Library's learning centres: Individual workstations are available for concentrated study, and there are tables for group work. The "lounge area" with comfortable furniture is ideal for chatting and relaxing. You will also find drinks and snack vending machines on site.
Carrels
At some locations individual work desks are available for those requiring especially quiet and concentrated surroundings.
- Fachbibliothek Historicum
Students and postgraduate doctoral candidates of those disciplines of the Faculties 9 and 12 that are represented in the Fachbibliothek Historicum can use carrels whilst preparing their final thesis. The carrels can only be booked for 4 weeks via historicum@ub.uni-muenchen.de indicating the field of study, number of semesters, and type of final thesis. - Fachbibliothek Chemie und Pharmazie
Fourteen carrels are available for doctoral students of the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, which can be booked for a maximum of six months.
Eight non-reservable carrels are available to all users for a period of one day; they are freely accessible. The carrels can also be used as small group work rooms (up to four people). Reservations are not possible. - Fachbibliothek Philologicum
Students and postgraduate doctoral candidates of the Faculty 13 can use 24 carrels whilst preparing their final thesis. These can be booked for 4 weeks via Einzelcarrels@ub.uni-muenchen.de indicating the field of study, number of semesters and type of final thesis.
