How do I find journals?

Searching for printed and electronic journals in the online catalogue
You will find print and electronic journals held by the Zentralbibliothek (Main Library) and the Subject Libraries in the online catalogue, indexed by journal title. If you have too many search results you can narrow them down to the publication type "journal" or "e-journal" using the filters in the left-hand column.
When searching for journals you will not be able to filter by year of publication. First, search for the journal without entering a year, then check in the full record under the tab "More title information" to see which library location has the volume you need.

Electronic journals
With electronic journals, look for the blue button "full text” in the online catalogue results list. As soon as you log in with your LMU user ID you will be granted access to the journal.
Printed journals
For printed journals, all the information you need to obtain the title is contained in the full record for that title. You will see a table displaying the holdings information for the desired journal.
- "Shelfmark" column:
Periodicals are generally shelved in the freely accessible open access area of the Subject Libraries. You will need the shelfmark to find the desired journal. - "Local collection" column:
In this column you will find details of the journal volumes held by that particular location. If the entry ends with a dash it means that the journal is available up to and including the latest issue. - "Location" column:
The link here will lead you to more detailed information on the respective location (name of the library, address, directions, opening hours). - "Remarks" column:
This column provides you with additional information on the holdings of the desired journal.
Please note: If the journal is held by the Main Library, click on the link "Display volumes" to order individual volumes from the stacks.
Searching for electronic journals in the EZB
If you already know that the scholarly journal you need is available in electronic form you can also search for it in the Electronic Journals Library (EZB).

Searching for journals in the national database ZDB
If you want to know which German libraries have a particular journal, you should use the Zeitschriftendatenbank (German Union Catalogue of Serials - ZDB).
The ZDB indexes all printed and electronic journals held by German and Austrian academic libraries. You can search by journal title or ISSN number. When you have clicked on a title you can then use the tab "Holdings" to see where the journal is available. This information is useful if you need to use the interlibrary loans service.
