Musicology

To make sure your literature searching skills are up to scratch, please take a look at the general information on search techniques under the heading "How do I find ..." in the navigation bar of this web page.

A number of subject-related resources are available to help you search for literature and other subject-specific information.

Subject databases on musicology available through the University Library

  • Music Online
Access to this full-text database is funded by the DFG. Amongst other sources it contains a collection of music prints, music manuscripts and hitherto unpublished material dating from the 15th to the 20th century. You will also find there a list of subject-related reference works on the history of Western classical music from the Middle Ages to the 21st century.
  • Oxford Music Online
This database combines the reference works Grove Music Online, The Oxford Companion to Music and The Oxford Dictionary of Music (2nd edition).

Bibliographical references and other subject information freely available on the internet

  • Musiconn
This central portal for music and musicology gives you access to a wide range of search tools, digitized works (including historical sheet music editions) and a wealth of subject-related information and internet resources.

All of the above-mentioned databases and portals can be found under the subject heading "Musikwissenschaft" (Musicology) in the Datenbank-Infosystem DBIS (Database Information System) along with numerous other titles in the University Library's range of databases.
