To make sure your literature searching skills are up to scratch, please take a look at the general information on search techniques under the heading "How do I find ..." in the navigation bar of this web page.
You will find the following resources particularly helpful when conducting literature searches in the field of sociology:
Sociology databases available through the University Library
- SocIndex
This database contains primarily English-language bibliographical references to articles published in around 4,000 social science journals, compilations and research reports. Some full texts are directly accessible from within the database itself, others can be accessed using the SFX link resolver either to retrieve full texts or to locate their titles in the University Library's printed collections. - JSTOR
The main emphasis of this searchable journal archive is on the social sciences and humanities. You can limit your search to individual disciplines, including sociology. JSTOR is a journal archive and therefore does not, as a rule, offer access to journal articles published in the most recent volumes. All articles indexed in JSTOR are available as full texts. - WISO
This database contains scholarly articles on all aspects of economics and the social sciences published in German-speaking regions. Also included are a number of publications of a more popular, non-academic nature. Some full texts are directly accessible from within the database, others can be accessed using the SFX link resolver either to retrieve full texts or to locate their titles in the University Library's printed collections.
You will find additional databases relating to the field of sociology in the Datenbank-Infosystem DBIS (Database Information System) under the subject heading "Soziologie".
Bibliographical references and other subject information freely available on the internet
Academic search engine Google Scholar
This search engine enables you to limit your search exclusively to scholarly literature (book titles, journal articles, technical papers and other material). If the correct settings have been entered you will be able to link directly to journal articles and catalogue records. Please note the information in the section "Google Scholar" in the navigation bar of this web page.
