Searching for theses submitted in Munich

Searching for German-language theses
All German-language theses submitted from 1945 onwards are searchable in the online catalogue of the Deutsche Nationalbibliothek (German National Library - DNB).
- Select the option "Erweiterte Suche" (advanced search) and the tab "Gesamter Bestand" (all collections).
- Limit your search to theses:
In the drop-down menu select the term "Hochschulschriftenvermerk" (thesis identifier) and enter "diss" (similarly, for habilitation theses, enter "habil"). - Limit your search to the field of veterinary medicine by using the subject group:
In the drop-down menu select "Hauptsachgruppe" (main subject group) and enter the following classification numbers in the search field: - for theses published from 2004 onwards "630" (agriculture and veterinary medicine)
- for theses published between 1982 and 2003 "34"
- for theses published before 1981 "17y"
The other two search lines can be used to conduct a subject search by title and/or keyword. Right-truncation of your search terms is possible using "*" at the end of a word (root form only or root form plus any number of additional characters), left-truncation or truncation within a word is not permitted.
You will find further information on search functions, subject groups etc. under "Help" in the top menu (help texts are in German).
Since the DNB online catalogue contains no location information, you will have to use the titles you have retrieved to repeat your search as necessary in appropriate catalogues and search engines (Gateway Bayern, KVK).
If you need help, please get in touch with your contact partner for veterinary medicine. You will find his or her contact details in the service column on the right-hand side of this web page.
